C L A S S E S

There are many sub-styles of hula, with the two main categories being Hula Kahiko and Hula Auana. Here at Hula Hālau Nā Mamo O Panaʻewa, we strive for excellence and provide the following classes (please contact us for days and times):

 

  • Beginning (General): All students 12+

  • Keiki (Children): 5-9

  • Kāikamahine (Young Girls): 10-14

  • Keiki Kāne (Young Men): 9-14

  • Wāhine (Women): 15-35+

  • Kāne (Men): 15+

  • Mākuahine (Gracious Ladies): 35+

  • Hoʻopaʻa

  • Ukulele

 

Hālau ‘Olelo No’eau (Teaching Principals):

  • “I mohala no ka lehua i ke ke’ekehi ‘ia e ka ua” (The Lehua blossom unfolds when the rains tread on it)

  • “Pupukahi i holomua” (Unite to move forward)

  • “Lawe i ka ma’alea a ku’ono’ono” (Acquire skill and make it deep)

  • “Kulia i ka nu’u” (Strive for the summit.)

  • “’Ike aku, ‘ike mai, kokua aku kokua mai; pela iho la ka nohana ‘ohana” (Recognize others, be recognized, help others, be helped; such is a family relationship)
